We haven’t reached the King of Calypso yet (keep reading), but here we have the “Queen of Swing” – Norma Miller. Miller won that honor after appearing in musical Hellzapoppin, and specifically one especially swinging dance scene.
It was just one of many roles the actress played throughout the 20th century, and she also appeared in another musical, this time a comedy – A Day at the Races. She didn’t stray far from her claim to fame, and played a dancer in most of her roles. The Harlem native also authored several books, mostly about swing music, and co-authored a tome about African-American comedy with longtime friend Redd Foxx.
