If you were asked who America’s most successful living author was, you might say Stephen King or Danielle Steel, but what about children and young adult author Beverly Cleary?
She’s a firm contender for one of the best-selling American author of all times, with her books having sold more than 91 million copies worldwide. Cleary began writing in the 1950s, and her last book – Ramona’s World, starring her most enduring creation Ramona Quimby – came out in 1999. No longer working, she has been living in a retirement home since 2016.
