[post_page_title]Sidney Poitier – 91 years old[/post_page_title]
If there was ever an actor that required almost no introduction, it would be Sidney Poitier, who was the first black actor to win an Academy Award and a Golden Globe, both of which he received for starring in the 1963 drama Lilies of the Field.
Alongside acting, Poitier was also a prominent member of various social and humanitarian causes, most notably the Civil Rights Movement, and for a decade was even the Bahamian ambassador to Japan – although he was born in Miami, his parents were just visiting. He also tried his hand at directing, but is now retired.
