This actress’s non-conventional looks belie the fact she started her career in show business… as a beauty pageant winner, taking the Miss Chicago crown in 1946. From there it was on to Miss America, where she placed in the not-too-shabby 16th place.
Leachman then transitioned to acting, with memorable roles in films The Last Picture Show and Young Frankenstein in the 1970s. She then made another switch – to television – appearing in The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spin-off Phyllis, and The Facts of Life. she recently appeared in 2018 drama film I Can Only Imagine.
