[post_page_title]Sawao Kato[/post_page_title]
Sawao Kato is one of the most successful and missed Olympians since he departed from the 1976 Games. He won 12 medals, eight of them are gold. Kato’s specialty was the parallel bars and he closed out his memorable career with his final win the Individual Men’s Gymnastics Event.

He is one of ten athletes in Olympic history to have won eight or more gold medals and in Japan, he is listed as the Olympic athlete with the most medals overall. Since 2010, Kato has worked as professor emeritus at the University of Tsukuba and he was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame back in 2001.
