Having had a role in everything from Water World to The Lion King, Kingdom of Heaven and Assassin’s creed, Jeremy Irons is no stranger to violent roles. However, when he was approached to portray the character of violent cannibal Hannibal Lecter, he outright refused.
Just like with Michelle Pfeiffer, the script was too violent even for him. The role went to Anthony Hopkins in the end, catapulting him to superstardom.
