We could see why producers wanted Tom Cruise to play Ren McCormack in the dance film, Footloose; they probably thought he would be perfect after his little dancing number in Risky Business.
Alas, Cruise decided to decline the part and accept a role in the film, All the Right Moves. The role of Ren was also offered to actor, Rob Lowe, but he had to back out after getting injured. The role famously went to Kevin Bacon, who made Ren everyone’s best friend and spirit animal.
