The 1999 version of The Mummy was a successful movie, with many adoring fans who still go back to it today. The 2017 release was much anticipated as a Tom Cruise movie but unfortunately didn’t land on its feet. Cruise reportedly took creative control from a first-time director and changed a whole load of things.
Critics have claimed the movie seems more like a set of corporate compromises than a project with passion and inspiration. Many felt this movie confused itself by not fitting a particular genre.
