In the end, Thanos faces a child Gamora who asks him how much it cost him to complete his mission, to which he replies “everything.”
This, of course, refers to having sacrificed his beloved daughter Gamora to get the soul stone, but it also raises a different question – if everyone got sucked into the soul stone, could Thanos have gotten trapped inside there as well? If you think about it, it makes sense that wiping out half the population leaves you with a 50-50 chance of being wiped out yourself.
