Thanos kills Gamora in order to get the soul stone, and then later wakes up in a strange place with orange all around (which is the color of the stone), where he talks to a young Gamora.
Infinity War co-director Joe Russo has already confirmed that this place was an ethereal plane inside the stone, which means Gamora could possibly be trapped there, and may be able to come back. This can also possibly be where the rest of the disintegrated Avengers might be, as they’re probably not really dead.
