One may assume that the reason why the pyramids were built in close proximity to the Nile was due to the need of the civilization to be close to water.
However, after a lot of research was conducted around Ancient Egyptian civilization, it is now believed that another reason is because the sun sets on the west bank of the river. This is where the pyramids were located and it was supposed be a symbol for the world of the dead.
