In 1987, Marissa got her first off-Broadway theater role in Daughters. She played the role of Cetta. At this time, Marissa was just 22 years old. She earned some serious acclaim for her role in the production, winning herself the Theatre World Award for Outstanding Debut on Stage. The theater company was called Naked Angels Theatre Company. Her other roles were in productions like Wait Until Dark, The Realistic Joneses, and Top Girls.
