Picking hosts for an award ceremony is harder than you might think. You want people who will bring a lot of energy to the gig, and who will have excellent chemistry with their co-stars. Unfortunately, the latter is not what James Franco and Anne Hathaway had when they hosted the 2011 Academy Awards.
The ceremony was a complete nightmare, with the jokes falling flat because Franco didn’t look like he wanted to be there. It seems Anne should have gone with her gut when she initially turned the role down.
