Karen and Richard both knew they wanted to move forward with a career in music together, but they had no idea as to where to even begin. Richard therefore decided to tap his college buddy Wes Jacobs to write for the sibling group and to even join forces with them.
The three actually started out as a jazz trio, with Karen on the drums, Wess on the bass and tuba, and Richard on the piano. They were called The Richard Carpenter Trio.
