It would only be several weeks after that phone call to Dr. Levenkron that Karen decided to check herself into a hospital in order to try and gain some weight. She was taken in and put on a feeding tube as well as having an intravenous drip put into her arm which infused nutrients directly into her bloodstream.
After gaining 30 pounds, Karen felt that she was well enough to go home. Her friends and the doctors told her she wasn’t ready but Karen was not having it.
