In the 1991 song ‘Into the Great Wide Open’ there were more similarities from ‘I’ll Be You’ by the band The Replacements, only this time it appeared as though the similarities were a bit more obvious. A line in the chorus was the exact same as one from the Replacements song which hadn’t been a hit for the band when it was originally released. It could be by chance, but Petty had the band as an opening act for a year so could be accused of hearing it before!
