Johnny Cash enlisted in the United States Air Force in July of 1950. He was assigned to the 12th Radio Squadron Mobile of the United States Air Force Security Service in Germany in the position of Morse Code operator in charge of intercepting Soviet Army transmissions.
He was in the Air Force until July of 1953 when he was honorably discharged. The singer-songwriter later became one of the best-selling musicians of all time, having sold over 90 million albums internationally.
