Actor Charlton Heston was in the United States Air Force from 1944 to 1946. During his time in the military, Heston was a gunner who ranked as a Staff Sergeant. After completing his military career, Heston shot to fame in films like The Ten Commandments, Touch of Evil, El Cid, The Greatest Show on Earth, and The Big Country.
Heston was a politically inclined man who considered himself a conservative Republican. He was the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998 through 2003 at which time he resigned due to an Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis.
