Another behavior that may occur before dogs drift off to sleep, is them scratching the floor. They don’t do it just to ruin your wooden floors all over your house, but it’s actually a ritual for them before going to sleep.
It’s meant to comfort them as they feel the warmth of being at home, and claim the bed as their territory. It might seem weird to us, but it’s not so different than fluffing your pillow before you go to sleep.
