Many dogs like to “counter surf”, or reach for those counters, and they do it in search for food. Their natural instinct is to hunt for food, and when at home – they hunt for it on the counter and in the trash.
If your dog is counter surfing, they’re likely looking for their next meal and would be rewarded if they find it. So a good way to stop this behavior is to simply keep the food far out of reach.
