In 2016, fans got a glimpse of Scottish actress Karen Gillan as her character in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (the 2017 sequel to the original hit film).
While many fans were outraged at how skimpy her outfit was, especially since it was set in a jungle, Karen promised there was good reason for it – and there was. Her character, Martha, was sucked into a video game along with her friends, so she assumed her game character’s attire. It was actually a way to criticize how women are portrayed in video games.
