Almost all of Disney’s live-action remakes of their animated classics have drawn controversy, but it seemed like Aladdin was simply a lighting rod for it. One of the biggest controversies involved Aladdin no longer wearing just a vest, and Jasmine losing her iconic crop top.
This was a completely conscious choice, of course, as producers felt that what worked for a 1992 animated film wouldn’t be appropriate for a 2019 live-action one. Naomi Scott (Jasmine) concurred, saying the choice was about “what makes the most sense for this movie and this time. I think it was the right decision.”
