In 2009, Varya was the subject of documentary made for British television called, The World’s Strongest Child. The documentary did not portray Varya’s family in the best light, and brought up allegations for how she had been treated growing up. Many believed that her father’s training methods were inappropriate for a child. In the documentary, it claimed that as a baby, Varya’s parents would attach weights to her limbs to help her build her strength.
