Victor managed to convince a scrap-metal dealer to pay $70,000 for the metal before he ran to Austria to lie low. The dealer was so embarrassed he never filed a report, and Victor returned to try his luck for the second time. He grew worried before fleeing to America and later being caught and arrested.
