Victor Lustig was one of the greatest con men ever to live. When he heard the Eiffel Tower was meant to be around for 20 years before it was taken down, he set about putting his plan into motion.
Victor managed to convince a scrap-metal dealer to pay $70,000 for the metal before he ran to Austria to lie low. The dealer was so embarrassed he never filed a report, and Victor returned to try his luck for the second time. He grew worried before fleeing to America and later being caught and arrested.
