James Brolin transformed into an ape for the film Planet of the Apes. Makeup artist Tom Burman, who worked with a number of other makeup artists on the film, was afraid that the actors wouldn’t want to take part in the film because of the many hours they would have to sit in the makeup chair. Burman said, “They were afraid that actors would not wear the make-up because of the length of time it took to apply, and they had to wear it all day long. So extras were tested, but they were flat.”
