Born out of the end of colonial influence in their country, the Defence Force was set up as a way of protecting the Tanzanian people in an unstable environment. The Defence Force’s training and structure has its origins in the British Army because of the British colonial influence in Tanzania. It is primarily a peacekeeping force for the United Nations currently.
