In order to bypass the new advertising laws on children’s television, the show’s producers write in a whole new character to the show, Mr. Schwinn Dealer, named after the company selling the bicycle. Those watching the show would see the bikes and remember the name of the character; talk about subliminal messaging. Nowadays that would not fly with the network and the laws against advertising and messaging within a show, but in the 70s things were more lax.
