Another Terrier breed, the Jack Russell was a hunting dog developed in England 200 years ago. If you’re wondering about the little critter’s name, the clergyman who first bred the species was named Parson John Russell, or “Jack” to his friends. The Jack Russells that followed are – like other terriers – highly independent, energetic and rambunctious things. Beware, however: if you aren’t ready for a dog that zooms across your house, chases anything that moves and is an escape artist, look elsewhere for a pet.
