The Lhasa apso means a lot to the people of Tibet. Why? It’s thought the breed is associated with the snow lion, a mythical creature that guards the country. Many Tibetans also believe that the reborn souls of priests lie within Lhasa apsos. For this reason, the pooches are often given as gifts and first made their way to America after the Dalai Lama gifted two to an American traveler in the 1930s. Now, their 12-pound weight has made them hugely popular amongst celebrities, such as Ellen DeGeneres.
