They were first produced in Germany where the breed was used to hunt rats around the homes and on farms. Their everlasting energy stores and snappy jaws made them perfect for the job, but can often mean miniature pinschers think they are a lot larger than their ten-pound size. It also means these dogs are better suited to homes with older children.
