Albert Spalding was an early baseball player from the beginning of the game. He is credited as being the first player in the history of the sport to decided that he wanted to protect his hand from the rock-like ball, and invented a glove to help protect himself. Because of him, baseball gloves are used by every athlete playing the sport. He went on to found the Spalding sporting goods company which makes a plethora of sports gear to this day.
