Before Gilmore Girls made Melissa McCarthy a bonafide star, another funny lady almost starred as the loyal and passionate Sookie St. James. Alex Borstein, known for voicing Lois in Family Guy and for her many characters on MADtv, originated Sookie in the pilot. After her producers at MADtv rejected Borstein from taking on any new projects she was forced to drop out. McCarthy stepped in and the rest is history. Borstein is currently starring in the Golden Globe Award-winning Amazon series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
