Joining the running list of actors who tried out for Friends is Janeane Garofalo. The show’s creators originally had the stand-up comedian known for her roles in Ratatouille and Wet Hot American Summer in the back of their minds. As they wrote each episode they had Garofalo’s voice in their heads. Monica was originally written as the edgier and darker member of the group. They inevitably changed directions and Courteney Cox landed the role of Monica.
