Before filling the shoes of Sheldon Cooper on the hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory, Jim Parsons came close to filling another famous character’s shoes – that of fast-talking womanizer Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother. Though the role eventually went to Neil Patrick Harris, CBS originally brought in Parsons for an audition. Both series were major hits for the network, and both actors received critical acclaim for their performances. Parsons in particular won four Emmys for playing Sheldon.
