The X-Files star Gillian Anderson is no stranger to period pieces and she almost played Lady Cora Crawley in the British drama series Downton Abbey. Elizabeth McGovern landed the role and we can’t imagine it any other way. McGovern made her screen debut in the 1980 Best Picture Oscar winner Ordinary People. She has performed in a number of period films including Ragtime and Once Upon a Time in America. She will next appear in the ‘20s era drama The Chaperone.
