It’s hard to picture anyone sparring with Sheldon better than Kaley Cuoco’s Penny. Sheldon meets his match with the charismatic and energetic character and the show thrives off of their dynamic. In the original pilot, however, Amanda Walsh was cast as Penny. She was tougher and more assertive and the show’s producers inevitably decided to go in a different direction. They called Cuoco in for an audition and they knew they had to hire her.
