Before a pilot, tank gunner, ship captain, or anyone else operating a vehicle is even allowed to climb into the cockpit they first go through simulators. These simulators are hyper-realistic virtual reality displays which cost millions of dollars but help the operator learn how the vehicle works. The simulator operator must not only know how to operate the simulator but also understand the mechanics of the weapon. After all, it’s better to train in a room than have a newby accidentally crash a multi-million dollar vehicle.
