These artists are not your average Van Gogh or Andy Warhol. They are fighting men – typically marines – who also are incredibly skilled at painting. Their jobs are to not only fight along with their brothers in arms, but afterwards to paint what they saw, thereby giving a cultured, intimate account of what really happened during a war or a battle. This unit is where we get some of our most heart wrenching, intricate depictions of war.
