Living in New York has always been expensive. That is where the film’s characters live, and somehow they seem to be doing just fine. While obviously Ben is a successful advertising executive, Andie is a writer who seems to only publish monthly columns.
Andie may not be as well off, but she’s still able to afford a decent apartment by herself with a doorman and seems to be taking cabs everywhere. How is she paying for all of this? It’s a similar situation to Friends where it’s unrealistic to have such a lifestyle with such a career choice. And then, there’s the question of if she is making tons of money, why is she constantly wearing tank tops and jeans?
