Hedy Lamarr was born in Austria, and was not only a movie star but also an inventor. Along with the composer George Antheil, she developed a radio based guidance system when World War II began – and their invention actually led to the development of Wi-Fi.

In 2014 she entered the National Inventors Hall of Fame. The clever beauty was known for roles in movies like the classic Samson and Delilah, and the adventure drama Boom Town. Sadly, she passed away in 2000 of heart disease.
