Carrie admitted that she had a problem with her substance intake. In an interview, she said that during the time she was filming The Empire Strikes Back, “Slowly, I realized I was doing a bit more drugs than other people and losing my choice in the matter.” Carrie had been very honest about her past substance abuse in appearances on 20/20 and NBC’s Today Show with Matt Lauer. She said that the pills, which she would definitely abuse, would “dial down” the manic side of her bipolar disorder.
