The now-46-year-old first began texting his second wife, 60-year-old Mary McTaggart, in the early ‘00s. He had just bought a new phone and was in the process of transferring all of the numbers from his old phone to his new one. As he did this, he incorrectly typed in the cell phone number of his wife at the time.
He thought that he had transferred the number perfectly, but he had instead changed one single digit. This meant that he had not saved his wife’s number, but had instead saved the number of a woman called Mary, who lived in Newcastle, England. At the time, he had no idea what he had done, and started texting his “wife” as he normally would…
