Meryl learned Polish for her role as Sophie Zawistowska in the 1982 film Sophie’s Choice. In the film, Meryl plays the role of a Holocaust survivor in the film, which had her ranked number 3 on Premiere Magazine’s 100 Greatest Performances of All Time. It was her role in this film that won her another Academy Award for Best Actress. Her ability to master the language and accent was remarkable, convincing enough to have the Polish actors on set confused.
