Meryl took opera lessons with Estelle Liebling when she was just 12 years old. Over time she realized that she didn’t like the genre as much as she thought she would and after four years decided to quit. Streep said, “I was singing something I didn’t feel and understand. That was an important lesson—not to do that. To find the thing that I could feel through.” It was through acting that she found her true passion.
