It isn’t just humans that are drafted to the Marines, they take animals too. One of the most famous animals to serve for the Marines was Reckless, a horse that carried over 9,000 pounds of ammunition during a battle in Korea. The bravery shown by Reckless earned her two Purple Heart medals before she was promoted to staff sergeant. Reckless was allowed to wander freely around the Marine’s military base, and she would often sleep in the soldier’s tents on cold nights.
