Since completing his project, Bruce has been hesitant to allow people into his bunker. He doesn’t want to risk messing with the delicate balance of his creation, nor does he want anyone to damage it.
The journalists he’s welcomed into the bunker all had to provide a service to Beach before they received the honor of an invitation. This included things like chopping wood which would save someone the effort of doing it in the future. He figures it’s the least they can do after the work he’s put in.
