Sure, prom is a big deal for many real high schoolers too. But how many schools you know of have the budget to turn the gym into the most fancy party venue? And how many high schoolers look, and dance, like professional dancers?
In high school movies the prom is usually the grand finale of the entire movie, so perhaps it’s understandable producers spare no expense on these scenes. But it sure makes real proms look very lame in comparison.
