Eventually Sonny promised Cher that he would cease his infidelity. He pledged to be loyal to her, and that they could start a proper family together. Sonny proposed to Cher, to which her response was total joy.
Cher was pregnant at the time with her first child, Chaz Bono, and the couple were married after Chaz was born on March 4, 1969. It seemed as if Cher and Sonny’s relationship had been rescued from the brink of destruction, and that now they would truly be a family.
