It was almost five years later that Anton was reunited with his family. In December 2016, he was discovered over 3450 miles from his home in the city of Manaus, Brazil. Thanks to a chance encounter with a local police officer, he was picked up and identified. Shortly after, word reached Toronto where his brother Stefan rejoiced in the knowledge that Anton was still alive. All those years being missing had had a real effect on Anton, and he was, in his own words, “looking really rough.”
