All in all 127 Russian soldiers sadly lost their lives to this violent attack. The Russian president at the time declared that the day after the attack was a national day of mourning, and the Russian media described the heinous attack as “a second Kursk,” referring to a submarine that sank with 118 sailors on board. It was discovered that the missile was fired from a block of apartments, so the Russian Military decided to destroy the buildings top prevent such an attack from happening again.
